Fire Protection

When it comes to fire protection, there’s no such thing as “too safe”, especially in skyscrapers and multi-storey buildings, as we have in the city. These have many risk factors, resulting from the height & the number of tenants. To minimize risks, the city authorities determine which fire safety arrangements are required. A Real Good Plumber is your man for keeping those regulations, and keeping your building safe:

Sprinklers have an important purpose; they’re designed to spray water on a fire, and catch it before it spreads. The sprinklers identify the signs of a fire and act at the right time to stop the dangerous expansion.

To ensure your property is fully protected against fire, there is one thing you should never give up on: Standpipes. They allow the option to control the fire and, in many cases, to extinguish it completely, even before aid forces arrive. Since pipes may wear out or become clogged, it’s important to maintain them so that in a real emergency, they can be useful.

Fire pumps are designed, in most cases, to operate automatically as soon as they detect that a fire has broken out where they are installed. The pump identifies it’s time to work by a decrease in pressure in the various fire extinguishing systems. There are different types of fire pumps, all are considered to be a particularly effective mean of preventing the spread of a fire before it causes serious property damages, and, in some cases, even casualties.

An FDNY (Fire Department New York) violation is an official notice that a property is not in compliance with the New York City Fire Code and/or Fire Department Rules. Some infractions are minor, while others can create dangerous situations, resulting in immediate action by the Fire Department, or even the issuance of a criminal summons. To remove a violation from the record, the unsafe condition must be corrected, and proof of the correction must be provided to the FDNY. After fixing the problem, a Certificate of Correction must be completed within 35 days from the day the violation originally was issued. When the violation is removed there is no longer a fine or vacate order attached to it. If you do not fix the issue, or if you are late, the Fire Department fines your building or may issue a vacate order.

To minimize such violations, we offer the following service agreements:

  • Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual and Yearly Inspections
  • Annual Testing & Maintenance
  • 5 Years Testing & Maintenance

We will remedy the FDNY violations and remove them. We also perform yearly “Full Flow Fire Pump Testing” as required by the Fire Department.
